You might think about charity as something you do with the extra change you find lying around, or by supporting a friend running in a local race. That's how we used to feel - until we learned how much even a modest amount of charity can accomplish when given to the right organizations.

It's common for charities to make big promises, and in most cases they can't deliver. But after researching hundreds of charities and the programs they carry out, we've found a few that can truly demonstrate impact. With these charities, your donation can make a real difference. What your Donation can do:

£5, €6, $7.5, UgSh20,000 is one bereavement support for one family who lost a close relative from a chronic and progressive disease.

£15, €18, $23, UgSh60,000 is the financial support for two months to a very poor patient who is no longer able to care for his/her family due to the chronic disease.

£36, €46, $57, UgSh150,000 is the average price of a cancer biopsy or other medical investigation for one of our patient. Patients come to KCA with terrible pain and symptoms without established diagnosis. The price of the investigation is often far beyond their financial means. KCA needs to get for them a reliable diagnosis upon which palliative care treatment will be oriented.

£77, €100, $120, USh320,000 enables to train one community volunteer based in a remote rural area who will refer the sick in need of palliative care to Hospice and who will care for them on a daily basis at their home under the supervision of KCA. A community volunteer starts working immediately after training and for life without financial remuneration.

£157, €200, $245, USh650,000 pays one qualified driver for one month to take the clinical professionals to the patients’ homes, in difficult access and far remote in the rural areas,. The driver remembers each and every home of patients within the many villages as long as he came once before. He is often considered as an equal of the clinical staff by the patients as he is often helping him/her and usually discusses with and encourages the family members.

£313, €400, $490, USh1, 300,000 pays for one month a qualified and experienced palliative care specialist nurse to care for children, adults and elderly suffering from life-threatening diseases. All our nurses are graduate of the 9-month Diploma in Clinical Palliative Care giving them the right to prescribe morphine. They independently set up a treatment to control pain and symptoms, and they support patients and their families psychologically and spiritually, breaking the bad news, preparing them in peace to death, and supporting the families in bereavement.

£1,280, €1,630, $2,000, USh5,300,000 enables two palliative care experts to come from Katika Child Africa - the model palliative care organisation for Africa - to countries of Western or Southern Africa for special training and public advocacy. Former trainees of the International Programmes or the IHPCA need on-site support in advocacy and in training to officials and trainers. Hosts in-country pay for all expenses related to the intensive trips, except air fares and visa fees that need to be paid by KCA’s donors. Having international expert delegates in countries where palliative care are starting or about to start incredibly boosts the capacities of the national teams that obtain essential landmarks tailored to their own context and credibility to advocate to their government.
